Family vacations in the summer come with high expectations and a lot of opinions. A waterpark vacation has something for everyone, from your youngest to your teens. Plus, there are plenty of ways for adults to enjoy the heat without just sitting in it.
Finding the right park takes some consideration. The best waterpark vacation packages combine a great park with solid lodging, but the fit really depends on the kind of experience your family is looking for, what there is to do beyond the water rides, and how the overall cost fits your budget. To help narrow it down, The Travel Team’s advisors hand-picked a few waterpark destinations that check all the right boxes for a summer family getaway.

Water Country USA
Williamsburg, VA
Water Country USA is the Mid-Atlantic’s largest waterpark, sitting in the heart of one of the most historically rich destinations on the East Coast. The whole family will love the park’s giant wave pool, splash pads, high-speed slides, and massive lazy river. Water Country USA’s sister park, Busch Gardens, is just a couple of miles away; multi-park passes let families split their time between the waterpark and Busch Gardens’ famous rollercoasters.
Some of Water Country USA's most popular rides include:
- Big Daddy Falls: A 670-foot whitewater rafting ride for up to four people, with dark tunnels, sharp turns, and sudden drops along the way.
- Cutback Water Coaster: The only RocketBLAST coaster on the East Coast and Virginia’s first hybrid water coaster, with steep drops, hairpin turns, and conveyor belts that push riders uphill.
- Nitro Racer Supercharged: A six-lane bodysurfing slide covering 320 feet of track, with a timed finish so everyone can see who came out on top.
Quick Queue and Quick Queue Plus options are available for families who want to skip the lines and get more rides in during the day. Water Country USA also partners with preferred hotels nearby and offers waterpark vacation packages that bundle lodging with park tickets for better overall value. This summer, the park is hosting AquaGlow nights from June 19 through August 15. These are limited-capacity nighttime events with party zones, a live DJ, neon lights and glowing decor throughout the park, live entertainment, and a bubble party, with shorter wait times on the rides.
For families traveling during summer 2026, Williamsburg is also one of the best places in the country to mark America’s 250th anniversary. Colonial Williamsburg and Historic Jamestowne are both nearby, and The Travel Team has put together a full guide to celebrating the semiquincentennial through travel if you want to make the most of the trip beyond the park.
Enchanted Forest Water Safari
Old Forge, NY
Enchanted Forest Water Safari is the largest waterpark in New York State, with over 50 rides and attractions spread across a property that goes well beyond the water. The park has wave pools, lazy rivers, body slides, raft rides, plus a full lineup of dry rides and family entertainment, making it easy to fill an entire day. Private cabana rentals are available throughout the park for families who want their own space with seating, shade, and lockable storage.
Top water rides at the park include:
- Killermanjaro’s Revenge: A 207-foot speed slide that drops riders through a trapdoor floor and sends them to the finish in one long, fast drop.
- Amazon: A relaxing 1,100-foot family tube ride through a jungle setting with no height requirements, making it a great option for everyone in the family.
- Mamba Strike: A 285-foot enclosed body slide that loops around the Serengeti Stampede before a trapdoor drops riders onto the slide.
“I’ve been to Enchanted Forest Water Safari many times, and it’s always been great,” says Brittany Parrino, one of our travel advisors. “For families in the Buffalo area, it’s one of my favorite recommendations for a summer day trip or a long weekend in the Adirondacks.”
There are also a twice-daily family circus show, live performances with park mascots, a petting zoo, an arcade, and loads of midway games.
For families looking to make a full trip out of it, Old Forge Camping Resort offers cabins, cottages, and campsites, while Waters Edge Inn provides lakefront Adirondack lodging, both just minutes from the park. The surrounding area has plenty to explore as well, including Adirondack RailBike Adventures, Old Forge Public Beach, and the Rondaxe Fire Tower Trail.
Camelback Resort
Tannersville, PA
Camelback Resort in Pennsylvania’s Pocono Mountains is a year-round destination with two separate waterparks on the property, one indoors and one out, giving families a lot of flexibility depending on when they visit.

A few Aquatopia highlights include:
- Bombora FlowRider: A wave simulator where guests can test their surfing or bodyboarding skills.
- Skydive Plummet: A 60-foot free-fall body drop slide.
When the weather is warm, Camelbeach Outdoor Waterpark is Pennsylvania’s largest outdoor waterpark, with many rides and attractions, including an Olympic-size swimming pool, wave pool, body slides, tube rides, raft rides, and a splash pad for younger kids.
Popular Camelbeach rides include:

Private cabana rentals are available at both parks. Outside the water, the resort has a free-roam VR area, a mega arcade, escape rooms, laser tag, bowling, bumper cars, and oversized LED darts. Outdoor activities include a mountain coaster, treetop ropes courses, ziplines, mini golf, UTV tours, and snow tubing in the winter. Restaurants and shopping are on the property as well. Accommodation options range from deluxe guest rooms and junior suites to three and four-bedroom family condos, providing a range of options for families of all sizes.
DreamWorks Water Park
East Rutherford, NJ
DreamWorks Water Park is the largest indoor waterpark in North America, maintaining a tropical 82-degree climate year-round. Kids are sure to love attractions based around some of DreamWorks’ most iconic series, like Shrek and Madagascar. Cabanas are available for groups of up to five, and daybeds near the wave pool are an option for those who want a more relaxed base for the day. Turbo Pass is available for families who want to skip the lines. The park also runs a full events calendar, so there is often something extra going on beyond the everyday attractions.
Some of the most popular rides include:
- DreamWorks Dream Runner: The longest hydromagnetic rocket coaster in America.
- Thrillagascar and Jungle Jammer: Twin trapdoor body slides that hold riders in suspense before dropping them into a near-vertical plunge.
- Shrek’s Sinkhole Slammer: A high-intensity body slide with a dramatic drop and rapid acceleration.
DreamWorks Water Park is located just outside New York City; families can drive or take public transportation and be in the heart of Manhattan in under an hour. Plus, the waterpark is neighbored by plenty of hotels, so you’ll be sure to find accommodations that suit your needs.
Volcano Bay
Orlando, FL
Universal’s Volcano Bay brings a level of theming and ride technology that sets it apart from a standard waterpark. The entire park is built around a massive volcano centerpiece, and the tropical atmosphere carries throughout. It maintains the same attention to detail that Universal is known for across its other Orlando properties.
Two rides in particular stand out:
- Krakatau Aqua Coaster: The park’s premier attraction is a multi-person canoe ride that uses linear induction motors to propel riders uphill and through dark twists before a final plunge through the volcano’s waterfall.
- Ko’okiri Body Plunge: A 125-foot, 70-degree drop slide located inside the volcano, with a trapdoor that sends riders falling instantly.
Volcano Bay is part of the larger Universal Orlando Resort. Cabana Bay Beach Resort is the closest on-site hotel, and Universal’s full lineup of theme parks is right there as well. For families already planning an Orlando vacation around Universal, adding Volcano Bay to the itinerary is a natural fit that gives everyone a full mix of rides, thrills, and ways to cool off.
